Why? The main
reason was minimize risk of someone being lost at sea. Risk assessments
came back very similar with all applications. The required an alert or
personal locator beacon to be automated or water activated (both fresh
water and salt water). The PLB’s were required to have a record in
standing up to 10 years in an industrial environment and be ATEX approved.
In addition the customer required an immediate MOB alarm to the crew and
precision direction back to the man over board (MOB). The objective
is a locally managed rescue and have the MOB found and on a stable platform
with 6-12 minutes.
