Why? The main reason was minimize risk of someone being lost at sea. Risk assessments
came back very similar with all applications. The required an alert or personal locator beacon to be automated or water activated (both fresh
water and salt water). In addition they required an immediate MOB alarm to the crew and precision direction back to the man over board (MOB).
In Canada the use of the Sea Marshall alerts and SARfinder has been proven to reduce the minimum manning requirements set by Transport Canada
