Regional Profiles
The Crewsafe V100 is configured
with a regional profile, described as Open
Loop or Closed
Loop, that complies with the regulatory requirements for a particular
region. The profiles address differences relating to, channels and frequencies
of operation, timing and destination of transmissions and message type,
category, interval and content.
Regardless of whether the
beacon is configured to be Open Loop or Closed Loop, the following features
remain the same:
-
Water activation from the READY
position and manual activation from OFF
-
Real-time GPS coordinates transmitted
via VHF DSC at regular intervals - every 5 minutes in the first 30 minutes,
then every 10 minutes
-
2 to 10NM alerting radius (surface-to-surface)
depending on height/altitude of receiving antenna
-
Physical characteristics and
integration with lifejackets
Differences between the functionality
of each configuration of beacon are listed in the table below. In summary,
unlike the Open Loop beacon which transmits a Distress alert to All Stations
via VHF DSC and on channel 16 (voice), the Closed Loop beacon can only
transmit to up to 8 pre-programmed MMSI numbers, usually the radio MMSI
number of the parent vessel and 7 additional MMSI numbers such as the local
Coast Guard, harbour master etc. The DSC alert is a Distress Relay alert
and no voice transmissions are permitted.
