Submarine in normal operation.

Submarine gets into difficulty.

Crewman wearing PLB8-MS Submariner
Personal Locator Beacon exits submarine (with Personal locator Beacon around
his neck, his hands are free) Personal Locator Beacon automatically activates
after 5 seconds immersion as crewman rises to surface.

Crewman reaches surface with
Personal Locator Beacon already transmitting. The 121.5 MHz signal and
‘SOS’ light signal from each crewman wearing a PLB is tracked by rescue
teams and the Crewman is recovered.
